The midbrain is comprised of the corporal quadrigemina and cerebral peduncles. The corpora quadrigemina (four bodies, twins) are the superior colliculi, which are the center for visual reflexes (blinking, accommodation of the lens), and the inferior colliculi where auditory reflexes are centered (contraction of the stapedius muscle).
