Chemical Synapses Between Neurons
1) Sub-threshold stimuli result in small local
potentials (graded potentials) which must add
together (summation) to produce an action
potential.
2) A variety neurotransmitters can be involved with
varying effects.
3) Neurotransmitters can be excitatory or
inhibitory. The result might be to turn off the
next neuron rather than to produce an action
potential.
